Intuition in names: Colors (2018) Sound app
In the project ‘~!@#$%^&’, I consider finding oneself and understanding others through sensory experience. The application project is about discerning the process of human cognition when people interpret an untutored language. I conducted some interviews in a Spanish community in Colombia to research the cognition process in the untaught language. Interviewees were asked to match the names of colors between Spanish and Korean based on the word’s visual appearance. Based on the field research responses, audio files are created. Each audio file is a combination of multiple people’s voices found on a binaural 3-D audio effect. Also, each of the voices says one of six color words in Spanish at the same time. Every non-Spanish audience member struggles with recognizing the word and is bewildered by other people’s interpretations while sharing opinions.
